Work Experience
I have been in education for the past 19 years, 17 of which have been with Kamehameha Schools Maui. My experiences has taken me from science kumu, to Dean of Learning, to Poʻo Kumu Kākoʻo. All of these roles have provided me with the experience, perspective, and empathy necessary to excel as the Director of Learning and Teaching.

E Ola!
E Ola! are Kamehameha Schools (KS) learner outcomes that articulates the expectations of a guaranteed and viable curriculum. This ensures all KS haumāna have a similar learning experience. My work with E Ola! has demonstrated my leadership, collaborative skills, and understanding of curriculum in the following ways:

Facilitate and lead kumu at the tri-campus level to develop content specific transfer goals and K-12 rubrics.

Member of the planning team for KS Maui K-12 E Ola! Learning Workshops. Assisted with registration, bringing in community experts, and creating engaging and relevant sessions.

Collaboratively organize E Ola! Sharing experiences for KS Maui kumu to highlight their change in instructional practices and haumāna work samples.

Facilitate on-going professional development sessions aimed at increasing understanding of E Ola! for high school kumu.

Lead professional support for high school kumu on developing rigorous and relevant performance assessments.

Kālaimoʻohele
Kālaimoʻohele is KS Maui’s innovation engine that drives change to impact haumāna achievement. Through their actions, haumāna will become leaders of the community and contribute to a thriving lāhui. My work with Kālaimoʻohele includes:

Leading the guiding coalition to develop recommendations that are data driven and push KS Maui to be the school of choice for haumāna of Hawaiian ancestry.

Being a member of the facilitation team that engages with the guiding coalition and the larger faculty, while also informing campus decision makers of our progress.
-
Contributing my work from Keala’ula Institute, which includes developing a transcript that reflects the mastery of competencies, as well as traditional courses like AP and dual credit classes.

Working with a team of kumu on developing a set of criteria for establishing a true bilingual/bicultural school.

Campus Support
Through my position as Dean of Learning, I have supported kumu and administration in many school initiatives that have built capacity and increased student engagement and achievement. This includes:

Guided the high school math department to have kumu incorporate classroom strategies to create a growth mindset culture. As a result of these strategies haumāna are also collaborating and making deeper mathematical connections.

Started our partnership with NuVu, to bring an innovative approach to problem solving current issues facing Maui Nui and beyond. The NuVu methods brought together our KS kumu with a NuVu fellow while building capacity at our school.

Create summaries and analysis of various institutional metrics. These analyses consisted of longitudinal, national comparison, and key action items.
